U.S. Congressman. He was engaged in the hotel business in Saratoga Springs, New York, when he entered politics and served as a member of the New York State Assembly in 1845. He also served as chairman of the board of supervisors of Saratoga County (1845, 57, 62). In 1863, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth, Thirty-ninth, and Fortieth Congresses, serving until 1869. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was president of the First National Bank of Saratoga Springs and director of the New York Central Railroad, until his death.
