Author of the book "Wake of the Wahoo." During World War II Sterling served as Yeoman aboard the submarine USS Wahoo (SS-238). As time went on, he became sensitive to the growing "feeling" among his shipmates the Wahoo would not survive the war. He tried to laugh it off by telling everyone that, since he was going to see the year 2000, they had nothing to worry about as long as he was on board the sub. Then it happened: Sterling was miraculously transferred just 45-minutes before Wahoo sailed on her last and fatal voyage. The submarine was lost with all hands. As the last man off Wahoo, Forest felt the world should know how these men lived and ultimately died, so in 1960 he wrote the book "Wake of the Wahoo." Forest Sterling lived to see the year 2000 and his book back in print in 1999.
