U.S. Congressman. He moved with his father to Pennsylvania, attended the public schools, later moved to Kentucky and engaged in the surveying of lands. In 1788, he was in the manufacture of salt, was a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives (1795, 1806) and served in the Kentucky State Senate, (1800-04). In 1809, he was elected as a Republican to the Eleventh Congress, serving until 1811. After his term, he was active in the Whig political party until his death at age 79.
