French Nobility. Born Agnes of Antioch and Chatillon, she married Bela of Hungary (1170), by the will of her brother-in-law Manuel I Comnenus Emperor of Constantinople. When her husband ascended the Magyar throne with the name of Bela III (1172), she was crowned Queen Consort (1173) assuming the name Ann for religious and practical reasons. Regarded as a very pious woman, she was the supporter of the Order of the Hospitallers of Jerusalem. Anne de Chatillon died very young and was initially buried in a town in the Central Trans-Danube.
