U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Amherst College Massachusetts, in 1837, then moved to Indiana, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Indianapolis, in 1839. He was a legal arbitrator between the State of Indiana and private corporations, was appointed United States District Attorney for the district of Indiana, by President Polk and was a member of the commission to codify the laws of Indiana, in 1852. In 1855, he was elected as an Opposition Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress, serving until 1857. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 69.
