US Congressman, US Senator. The son of Congressman Nathan Fellows Dixon II, he attended Phillips Academy Massachusetts, graduated from Brown University Rhode Island, in 1869, from the Albany Law School New York, in 1871, was admitted to the bar in 1871 and commenced to practice law in Westerly, Rhode Island. He was United States Attorney for the district of Rhode Island, when elected as a Republican to the Forty-eighth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Jonathan Chace and served from February 12 to March 3, 1885. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was a member of the Rhode Island State Senate, when elected as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Jonathan Chace, serving from 1889 to 1895. Not a candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law and engaged in banking, until his death at age 50.
