U.S. Congressman. Moving to Kentucky, in 1797, he worked as a wheelwright, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1808 and commenced to practice law in Winchester, Kentucky. He was a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives (1811, 15, 22, 30) and a member of the Kentucky State Senate, (1823-27). In 1831, he was elected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-second and Twenty-third Congresses and reelected as a Whig to the Twenty-fourth Congress, serving until 1837. After his term he was president of the Kentucky State board of internal improvements, (1837-39) and again a member of the Kentucky State House of representatives, in 1842.
