U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the law department of Transylvania University, in 1826, was admitted to the bar and commenced the practice of law in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. He was prosecuting attorney of Fleming County, (1829-39) and a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives, (1834-38). In 1839, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1843. After leaving Congress, he was a member of the Kentucky State Senate, in 1857 and a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives, (1861-62). He then was the judge of the Kentucky Circuit Court, (1862-68) and practiced law until his death at age 84.
