US Congressman. He learned the blacksmith’s trade and became successful as a shipbuilder. He was a member of the Maine State House of Representatives, and served as President of the Maine State Senate in 1840. In 1857, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth and Thirty-sixth Congresses, serving until 1861. After leaving Congress, he resumed his previous business interests until his death at age 72.
