US Congressman. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War as a Private in Company I, 147th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, being mustered in on February 2, 1865, and being honorably mustered out on January 20, 1866. He was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois's 7th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1903 to 1909.
