Eva M. Loebrich, age 91, of Maumee, passed away September 16, 2011, at Manor at Perrysburg surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 23, 1920, the 10th of 14 children, in the home of her parents, William Clyde and Sarah "Sadie" Ann (Cox) Blue, Ontario St, Toledo, OH. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, she married George Charles Loebrich on Christmas day, 1936, and together they built a home and raised a family on May Drive in Maumee.
Although primarily a homemaker, Eva had an assortment of interesting work opportunities. These included being one of the first 9 females hired to work as a ship fitter's helper during WWII at the Toledo Shipyard, building the Great Lakes Cutter, USCGC Mackinac. She was honored at the 50th anniversary in 1995, with a ride and dinner aboard the Vessel for being one of the last surviving female workers. During the 1950's and the early 1960's, Eva oversaw the children in the Union School cafeteria. Greatly enjoying her role as 'grandma' to 100's of Maumee children, during the 1970-1980's she also cared for children at the Timbers Bowling Alley while their moms bowled. In her retirement years, she enjoyed the many activities (especially dancing) at Maumee Eagles Aerie #2562. She also reigned as Maumee Sr. Center Queen in 1992 at the Maumee Memorial Day Parade.
In the 1990's she with her daughter, Sarah, became members of the National Blue Family Association, together they traveled to Romney, WV and Somerset, New Jersey to attend the National Reunions. She loved traveling with her children and sharing experiences.
In addition to her loving husband who passed away in 1984, Eva was preceded in death by her parents and thirteen brothers and sisters.
Eva is survived by her devoted children, Georgia Jeann (Bill) Schaich of Bloomington, IN; Gale Richard (Ann Debbe) of Maumee; Sarah Ann (Donn) Bitter of Oregon, OH and Susan Ann Elizabeth (Don) Johns of Swanton; grandchildren, Amy C Schaich, Lucy B (Spencer Goehl) Schaich, Bruce E (Katy) Loebrich, Debbe A (Duncan) McEwen, Christopher J Bitter (Tiffany Pena), Nicholas C (Kristy) Bitter, Elizabeth S Roberts, Jennifer L (Richard) Mains, and Michael A (Liz) Johns; eleven great-grandchildren, six step great-great grandchildren and countless loving nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Homes, 501 Conant St, Maumee, on Monday September 19, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-9 pm where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Parkcliffe of Northwood, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, and Manor at Perrysburg for their loving care of Eva, and Jan Wolard, her very special caregiver from Noble Heart Home Health Care Llc for her thoughtfulness and special attention.
