He was born February 12, 1934, at Farnam, NE to Wilbur and Emma (Klein) Darnall. He graduated from Eustis High School in 1952 and worked in custom harvesting. He served in the U. S. Army and later, four years in the reserves.

On October 17, 1958, he married Becky Bynum. They resided at Cozad, Nebraska, where he was employed with Monroe Auto Equipment Company and Farmland Services. They later made their home at Eustis, Nebraska, for 20 years, where he worked at the Co-op Elevator. In 1982, the couple moved to Farnam where he continued with elevator work and with Cargill Fertilizer at Elwood, Nebraska.
