At this crossing the first of three sick detachments, ten men and several families, were sent back along the Arkansas to Fort Pueblo to spend the winter. These three sick detachments met the Mississippi Saints at Fort Pueblo and, the following summer, collectively joined Brigham Young and the pioneers at Fort Laramie.
