World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Corporal in the 41st Battalion of the Queensland AIF. On the nights of August 26-27, 1918, his company was on an advance towards Fargny, France. On the first night, Corporal Gordon led his section through heavy German shell fire and single handedly attacked an enemy machine gun. The next night, he cleared a number of enemy trenches capturing two officers, six other soldiers and six machine guns. For extreme gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal in January 1919.
