MENAN, Idaho - Verba Jensen Hancock, 88, of Menan, Idaho, died Friday, July 14, 2000, of natural causes at her home.
She was born November 14, 1911, in Groveland, Idaho, to Joseph Franklin and Bertha Yancey Jensen.
She received her early schooling in Blackfoot, Idaho, attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, and graduated from Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah.
She married Irvin LeRoy Hancock on December 24, 1937. They had nine children.
Their early years were spent working at the Stoddard Saw Mill in Spencer, Idaho. They later moved to Menan, where they farmed and raised their family.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as ward Relief Society president, stake Relief Society president and in many other callings. From 1975 to 1977, she served a mission in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
She enjoyed reading, making quilts and crocheting. She received her greatest joy from her children and grandchildren. Her days were full as she rendered service to her family, friends and neighbors.
She lived in North Logan from 1977 to 1994.
Survivors include her children, Connie McFarland (Bruce) of Park City, Utah; Karen Meldrum (Jim) of Helena, Montana; Marie Fredrickson (Bruce) of Richmond, Utah; Gayle Powell (Dick) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Rita Tingey (Bruce) of Centerville, Utah; Peggy Cornwall (Jim) of Bear River City, Utah; Myron Hancock (Darlene) and Dean Hancock (Barbara) of Menan, Idaho; and Carl Hancock (Joy) of Lewisville, Idaho. She is also survived by five sisters, Donetta Madsen and Laurel Furse of Bountiful, Utah; Josephine Gardner of Aberdeen, Idaho; Vonda Thorpe of Kaysville, Utah; and Phyllis Hyde of Pocatello, Idaho; one brother, Vernon Jensen of Bountiful, Utah; 37 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Ross and Paul Jensen.
Funeral services were held July 18 at the Menan LDS 2nd Ward. Burial was at the Little Butte Cemetery in Annis, Idaho.
