Jazz Musician. A vocalist, arranger and composer, he is known for his powerful saxaphone playing, Benny Waters began his recording career with Charlie Johnson's band over 70 years ago, making recordings with Benny Carter and Joe "King" Oliver. He also recorded with Hot Lips Page, Jimmy Lunceford, Memphis Slim. In 1994 he was part of the group the Statesmen of Jazz that toured in Japan. At the time of his death, he was one of a handful of jazz greats that had done recordings as far back as the 1920s.
