Continental Congressman. He graduated from the College of New Jersey, in 1769; studied medicine in Philadelphia and practiced medicine in Hartsville, Pennsylvania. During the Revolutionary War, he served ad a Major in the 6th Pennsylvania Regiment, Continental Army. By the end of the war, he was appointed Colonel Commissary General for Prisoners in New Jersey. He was a member of the New Jersey State Council, and elected a member of the Continental Congress, serving from 1784 to 1785. He was a member of the New Jersey State General Assembly, and elected as a Pro-Administration to the Third Congress, serving from 1793 to 1795. In addition, he was Brigadier General of the Somerset Militia, New Jersey Secretary of State of New Jersey, was trustee of the College of New Jersey, and president of the Trenton Banking Company, from 1815 until his death.
