Edward was the brother of the famous American war hero, Admiral George Dewey, who was most well known for the battle with the Spanish fleet in Manila Bay during the Spanish American War, sinking all 8 Spanish ships, while sustaining very little damage to his own ships, no dead and only 8 wounded.
