US Congressman. Born in Dadeville, Alabama, at the age of sixteen he volunteered as a Private in Company D, 10th Georgia Cavalry, Confederate Army and served throughout the Civil War. After the war, he relocated in 1866, to Jefferson, Texas, studied law, was admitted to the bar in November 1870 and commenced to practice in Dallas, Texas, in 1871. He was Judge of Dallas County, (1878-88) and Judge of the Fourteenth Judicial District of Texas, (1888-96). In 1897, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fifth, Fifty-sixth and Fifty-seventh Congresses and served until his death at age 53.
