U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the University of Florida at Gainesville in 1929, taught school in Leesburg, Florida, (1929-35), was a high school principal in Newberry, Florida, (1935-36), on the administrative staff of the University of Florida and a member Florida of the State House of Representatives, in 1935. During World War II, he served as a Captain in the US Army Infantry. After the war, he was again on the administrative staff of the University of Florida, until 1952, when elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-third Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving until 1967. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he was an administrator for the Rural Community Development Service, US Department of Agriculture, (1967-69). He then was an instructor of political science at Santa Fe Community College Florida, (1969-77).
