US Congressman. Elected as a Republican to represent New York's 27th District in the Seventy-fifth and two succeeding Congresses, he served from 1937 to 1943. Rockefeller graduated from New York State College in Albany in 1898 and spent the next 35 years in various State financial offices, including as Deputy State Tax Commissioner (1915 to 1921) and Deputy State Commissioner of Taxation and Finance (1921 to 1933). In 1933 he opened his own accounting and tax consulting firm in Chatham, New York. Rockefeller gained prominence as a Delegate to the 1936 Republican National Convention, and the following year was elected to the US House of Representatives to fill the vacancy left by the death of Congressman Philip A. Goodwin. He was not a candidate for renomination in 1942, and at the close of his third term he returned to his business in Chatham. Rockefeller married into the Bain banking family and is buried in their family plot at Kinderhook Cemetery.
