U.S. Congressman. After graduating from Union College, in 1844, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1849 and commenced to practice law in Canaan, New York. In 1859, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-sixth Congress, serving until 1861. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was a delegate to the Union National Convention at Philadelphia, in 1866 and practiced of law until his death at age 74.
