U.S. Congressman. He attended the law department of Cumberland University Tennessee, then later moved to St. Francis County, Arkansas and engaged in planting. He was a member of the Arkansas State House of Representatives, (1887-88) and president of the Arkansas State Wheel Farmers’ Organization, (1887-88). In 1890, he successfully contested as a Labor Party candidate the election of William H. Cate to the Fifty-first Congress, serving until 1891. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he relocated to Texas where he engaged in railroad building and the development of iron resources. During the Spanish American War, he served as a Captain in the 1st Regiment, United States Volunteers, U.S. Army. After the war, he returned to work for the railroad until his death at age 70.
