US Congressman. He taught school (1853-56), then graduated from Dickinson College, Pennsylvania, in 1860. He was principal of Reading Classical Academy Pennsylvania, (1860-69) and established the Reading Business College in 1880. In 1889, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-first and Fifty-second Congresses, serving until 1893. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed teaching at Reading Business College until his death at age 68.
