Charles Moore, School Master, as he was referred to in a 1762 Anson County, North Carolina, deed, married Mary Barry, daughter of old Andrew Barry, Esq.,* of Anson County, North Carolina. There are a number of original records that confirm the identity of his wife as Mary Barry. Only secondary sources suggest that Mary Moore was a Hamilton.

Andrew Barry of old Anson County, N.C., had at least three daughters who are known from documents, to be sisters: Mary, Violet, and Jane Barry. There is proof that the three daughters are sisters: Mary Barry (wife of Prof. Charles Moore), Jane Barry (wife of George Elliot (Elliott)), and Violet Barry (wife of William Watson).

(1) The will of Violet Watson, widow of William Watson, Sr., of Fishing Creek, 8 Oct 1815,York Co., S.C., Will Book G, page 48. Legacy of her land to John Barry son of Mary Barry,
"Mary being the daughter of my sister Jane Elliot." Other legacies to Jane Dunn, daughter of "sister Jane Elliot," and to Charles Moore, Rosannah Berry, and Margaret Berry, three
of the children of "my sister Mary Moore." Remainder of estate to be divided among the children of "my aforesaid two sisters."

(2) Charles and Mary Moore, Sr., had 10 children and the second son was named Andrew Barry Moore. At the time a second son was customarily named for the maternal grand-father.

(3) George Elliot, husband of Jane, sister of Mary Moore and Violet Watson, signed a will 26 Feb. 1803, and his six sons are named in order, the second being Andrew Elliot.

(3) Richard Barry, eldest son of Andrew Barry of Anson, had a son Andrew Barry,1759-1844, who had a son Andrew Moore Barry, born 1813. This Andrew Moore Barry of Mecklenburg Co., N.C., wrote a letter dated 3 Dec. 1877 to Thomas J. Moore of Spartanburg stating that he was named for Dr. Andrew Barry Moore of Spartanburg, "my father's cousin."
