" At the age of 15 he entered the army and served until its close. He then returned home and entered upon a course of study, preparing for the ministry. His study of divinity was with the pastor in Litchfield, Conn. About 1794, he was ordained pastor of the Congregational Church in Jamaica, Vt., where he continued 7 years. During the following 30 years he labored as missionary and tract agent in destitute fields. The last years of his life were spent in feebleness and infirmity, waiting, as a shock of corn fully ripe, to be gathered to his fathers."
