Monegasque Consort Princess. Born Marie-Charlotte Gabrielle Gibert from a family of the French upper middle class, she married (1816) Prince Florestan, second in succession after the elder brother Honorè V. At the death of this she assumed the title of Her Most Serene Highness the Consort Princess Caroline of Monaco. In a short time, being her husband indifferent to the internal affairs of the State, she assumed the role of rigorous ruler bringing to an optimal level the finances of Monaco but above all of the Grimaldi family thanks also to the foundation of the Monte Carlo Casino. Caroline Gilbert de Lametz survived her husband for 23 years.
