U.S. Congressman. He was a school teacher and, during the Revolutionary War, was Captain of the 6th Company, Massachusetts Regiment, which was in the Battle of Rhode Island in 1778. After the war, he was a delegate to the first Massachusetts State Constitutional Convention in 1780 and a member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives (1783, 1785 to 1786, and 1795 to 96). In 1797, he was elected as a Federalist to the Fifth Congress, serving until 1799. After his term, he was judge of the court of common pleas for Bristol County and a member of the Governor's council (1803 to 1805).
