Son of William and Sarah Ann Godbold Evans. Educated at the University of North Carolina. James married Amelia C. Leggette on January 2, 1858, they were childless.
MARION - Mr. James H. Evans, a prominent and most excellent citizen of the Centenary neighborhood, died yesterday afternoon of Bright's disease and dropsy of the chest. No citizen of his community could be more greatly valued than will Mr. Evans. He was comparatively a young man, full of uncompromising integrity and moral worth.
He was a son of the late Gen. William Evans and leaves a large circle of relatives who form an important factor of this community. His remains were interred this afternoon at Centenary Church.
