Frank was the son of David and Mary Alden, the oldest of seven children. At the age of eight years the family moved to Henry County, Illinois. His early youth was spent attending school and working on the farm. His father was killed in 1864, leaving him at the age of seventeen in charge of the family.
Frank married Mary Blackburn of Henry County, Illinois, on 25 Dec 1869. They moved to Page County, Iowa, in the spring of 1871. Frank and Mary had six children: Fred H, Lillie Grace, Harry B, Howard D, Nellie G, and Bessie B.
Frank and Mary, who were farmers, helped organize the First Baptist Church of Shenandoah in June 1871. He was a deacon of the church and Mary was the church clerk. Frank was also a justice of the peace and township trustee.
He died in 1914 at the age of 66 years 10 months.
