Pauline is the daughter of Joseph and Susanna Laschinger Gerig. The family is from Chicago but lived a short time in Minneapolis, Minnesota before moving back to Chicago around 1900. Joseph and Susanna had seven children and they instilled in their children, especially their daughters, a lust for life. They encouraged them to travel, learn many languages and see the world. They were all well educated and had a love for knowledge. The daughters married later in life because of this love of travel. They usually traveled together. I know LeRoy and Pauline were married by 1934, but a marriage license has not been found. I am not sure of Pauline's birth year as the California birth year and the social security birth year on her death notice are different. One lists 1893 while the other lists 1897.
