Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He enlisted in the 3rd Michigan Volunteer Infantry in 1861. Before War's end, he had served as a Corporal in both the 3rd and 5th Michigan Volunteer Infantries and had been wounded twice. On April 6, 1865, he captured a Confederate Battle Flag at the Battle of Saylor's Creek, Virginia.
