The daughter of Col. Stephen Mack and Temperance Bond. Lovisa had a twin sister, Lovina Mack. Lovisa and Lovina were named after two sisters of their father, both of whom died young.

The following record of her marriage is recorded in "Early days in Detroit; papers written by General Friend Palmer of Detroit, being his personal reminiscences of important events and descriptions of the city for over eighty years":

"December 29, 1820, records the marriage of Mr. David Cooper to Miss Lovicy Mack, also that of Captain Henry Whiting, of the Fifth Regiment, to Miss Eliza Macomb. Both couples were joined by Rev. Mr. Monteith."
