David Wallace (1799-1859) - Find a Grave Memorial

Indiana Governor, U.S. Congressman. He moved with his parents to Brookville, Indiana, in 1817, graduated from the US Military Academy West Point, New York, in 1821, as a Lieutenant of Artillery, was appointed assistant professor of mathematics and taught there until 1822. Returning to Indiana, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1824, practiced law and member of the Indiana State House of representatives, (1828-30). He served as Lieutenant Governor of Indiana, (1831-37), was elected the 6th Governor of Indiana, serving (1837-40) and also was Colonel n the 7th Regiment, Indiana Militia. In 1841, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-seventh Congress, serving until 1843. After his term, he resumed the practice of law, was a delegate to the Indiana State constitutional convention in 1850 and was judge of the court of common pleas of Marion County, from 1856 until his death at age 60.
