Civil War Medal of Honor recipient. He enlisted in the Union Army at New York and served as a Private in Company F, 73d New York Infantry. On May 12, 1864 at the conflict at Spotsylvania, Virginia, he captured the Confederate flag of the 15th Louisiana Infantry C.S.A.
