World War II British Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Subadar officer, 1st Battalion, 2nd King Edward VII's Own Gurkha Rifles, Indian Army. On the night of April 5 and morning of April 6, 1943, Subadar Thapa was in command of a silent attack at Rass-es-Zouai, Tunisia. Leading two sections, he made first contact with the enemy at the foot of a pathway winding up a narrow cleft which was thickly studded with enemy posts. The line garrison out-posts were all killed by Subadar Thapa's men and he continued to a machine-gun post with similar results. He then continued to fight until the advance by the whole division was made possible. For prestigious award for gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal in June, 1943.
