He had a very adventurous character, running away from home to join the Boer side in the war against England. He was wounded and organised the care for the prisoners of the war. Returning back to Russia, he became one of the founders of the political party of Oktyabrists (Union of 17 October), organised as the response to the Political manifest of the Csar in October 1905. Strong supporter of the Russian monarchy, it was him taking the signed abdication from the hands of the Emeror Nicholas II in February 1917. He joined the Provisional Government as a Military minister but resigned when kerensky came to power. He gave a lot of support to the White army and after its defeat, emigrated first to Germany and later to France where he died aged 73.
