Crimean War British Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He was the son of George Peter Hale and Sarah Lunt. He served as a Surgeon Major in the 7th Regiment, Royal Fusiliers. On September 8, 1855, during the Siege of Sebastopol, Russian, his forward position was penned down with many casualties. Under heavy fire, he repeatedly carried several wounded men across open ground to safety. For the highest gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal and promoted Lieutenant Colonel. He married Emily Harriet Rowswell, on Sept. 19, 1872 at Bathwick with Wooley, Somerset, England.
