DeWitt C. Tremaine died Nov. 24 at the Adirondack Regional Hospital in Corinth after a valiant battle against a complication of illnesses which started with a serious heart attack occurring on Sept. 9.
DeWitt Tremaine was a most energetic, resourceful, and dedicated supervisor for the Town of Stony Creek from the time he first took office in 1954 as manager of our town government and leader of the Town Board. He fostered the idea of an annual Mountain Days Celebration to publicize the town and this event which has been held
annually for the past thirteen years has become bigger and better each succeeding year. Mr. Tremaine was chairman of the Mountain Days Committee, which functioned as a cooperative unit to assist each town organization which participated in this event.
As chairman of this committee, DeWitt always had new ideas which he interlaced with those of other members of the committee to form a solid program which was enjoyed by the crowds of people who have come each year, planning their vacation to include this event.
Mr. Tremaine further added to the honor of his town by being elected as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors for Warren County. This was his second year as chairman, showing that the county was recognizing his many and varied talents as a leader. Stony Creek is proud of its late supervisor's many accomplishments and will cherish his memory for a long, long time.
