Miss RUTH MARIE TOLSON was the daughter of Dr. Melvin B. Tolson, Sr. and Mrs. Ruth Mabel (Southall) Tolson.

She was one of four children born to her parent's union. Her siblings include her three brothers -- Melvin B. Tolson Jr., Arthur Lincoln Tolson and Wiley Wilson Tolson.

Her family relocated from Texas to Washington D.C.

She earned a master's degree in Library Science.

"Washington, D.C. --- Funeral services for RUTH TOLSON, of 6614-13th Place N.W., Washington, D.C., and formerly of Marshall, are pending with a Washington D.C. funeral home. Miss Tolson died Sunday following a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Melvin B. Tolson, a longtime English professor at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. Miss Tolson was born in Marshall, and she was a 1946 graduate of H.B. Pemberton High School in Marshall. She had been employed as a librarian in Washington, D.C. for a number of years. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. M.B. Tolson, of Washington, D.C., three brothers, Dr. M.B. Tolson Jr., of Norman, Oklahoma, Dr. Arthur L. Tolson, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Dr. Wiley W. Tolson, of Washington, D.C.; and a number of other relatives."

Upon her passing, Miss RUTH MARIE TOLSON was laid to rest on the grounds of Lincoln Cemetery in Albemarle County, Virginia.
