Folk Figure. Better known as Banjo, he is the man who wrote the words to the song "Waltzing Matilda." The song was inspired by the 1894 Australian sheep shearer's strike and the death of legendary swagman Samuel "Frenchy" Hoffmeister. Banjo Paterson was at Dagworth Station when he met Christina Macpherson who was playing a tune on a zither. He penned the words to Waltzing Matilda to the tune that she was playing. He was also a lawyer, poet, journalist, and radio broadcaster.
