U.S. Congressman. He attended the Savannah Institute, graduated from the law department of Cumberland University in 1915 and practiced law in Lebanon, Tennessee. He also engaged in mercantile pursuits, real estate and the lumber business. He was a member of the Tennessee State House of Representatives (1913-17) and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Marines during World War I. After the war, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress, serving (1921-23). An unsuccessful candidate for re-election, he resumed his former business pursuits until his death.
