He was ordained priest on March 11, 1786, appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Quebec on April 26, 1800, ordained Bishop Coadjutor Bishop of Quebec on January 25, 1801, succeeded Bishop of Quebec on January 17, 1806, and appointed Archbishop of Quebec on January 12, 1819. He died on December 4, 1825, while still the Archbishop of Quebec.
