US Congressman. He taught school in Lamar County, Texas, (1898-1900), graduated from the law department of Cumberland University, in 1905; was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Clarksville, Texas. In 1915, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-fourth Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving until 1929. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he was appointed by President Herbert Hoover to the United States Board of Tax Appeals, serving (1929-53) and was in the judicial service with the United States Tax Court, (1953-66).
