US Congressman. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1918 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Field Artillery. After his discharge, he graduated from the law department of Harvard University in 1921, was admitted to the bar in 1922 and commenced to practice law in Middletown, Connecticut. He was a member of the Connecticut State House of Representatives (1927-29, 1931-33), was a member of the Connecticut Old Age Pension Commission (1932-33) and clerk of the Connecticut State Senate, (1933-35). In 1935, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth Congress and reelected to the Seventy-fifth Congress, serving until 1939. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, with the outbreak of World War II, he entered the military and served as a Major in the US Army Corps of Military Police in Africa, (1942-44). After the war, he resumed the practice of law, was a member of the Connecticut Veterans Reemployment and Advisory Commission (1948-49) and commander of the Connecticut Disabled American Veterans, (1947-48).
