Capt Peter Forney (1756-1834) - Find a Grave Memorial

DAR approved patriot #A041561. U.S. Congressman. During the Revolutionary War, he served as a Captain in the Continental Army and after the war, he engaged in the manufacture of iron. Entering politics, he was a member of the North Carolina State House of Commons, (1794-96) and served in the North Carolina State Senate, (1801-02). In 1813, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirteenth Congress, serving until 1815. Declining to be a candidate for reelection, he retired from public life until his death at age 77.

A patriot solder of the Revolution,
Who was born April 21, 1756,
Died Feb. 1, 1834.
In public life the deceased acquited himself
With reqputation as a useful and efficient member of Congress
As an elector from the people for President of the United States.
He carried out the Republican principles
Upon which he had acted through life
By voting successively for Mr. Jefferson, Mr. Madison, Mr. Munroe,
And Gen. Jackson and in all the relations of private life.
He acquired the love and esteem of all who knew him.
