Major League Baseball Player. For four seasons (1954 to 1957), he was a pitcher with the Washington Senators, Philadelphia/Kansas City Athletics and New York Yankees. Born John Craig Dixon, Jr., he was signed as an amateur free agent by the Washington Senators in 1941 and following service with the US Navy during World War II, he embarked on his journey through the Minor Leagues. Dixon broke into the Major Leagues with Washington on April 20th, 1953, and pitched in 43 games that year, recording 5 wins, with a respectable 3.75 ERA. The following season (1954), he produced a career-high 6 victories, while topping the American League with 54 appearances, as he split playing time with Washington and the Philadelphia Athletics. He concluded his career in 1956, as a contributor to the Yankees' squad which captured the World Series that year. In 102 regular season games, he compiled a 11 win, 18 loss record, with a 4.17 lifetime ERA. After his MLB career, he continued to play in a semi-pro league and later served as a convenience store manager.
