Henry Hanst's parents were John Hanst, born about 1821 in Wurttenberg, Germany, and Christina Hanst, born about 1824 in Wurttemberg, Germany. Both died after 1880, probably in Pennsylvania and perhaps in Philadelphia. Christina Hanst's burial place is unknown. Henry Hanst was president of the West Virginia Northern Railroad, based in Kingwood, West Virginia, which was owned by Philadelphia capitalists.
