Lithuanian Princess. Last child of Grand Duke Gediminas, she became queen consort of Poland having married Casimir III (1325) of the Piast dynasty. The marriage was arranged in order to consolidate an alliance between its countries to counter the aggressive and expansionist policy of the Teutonic Knights. According to the chronicles of that period, Aldona was a very religious woman, mild-tempered and devoted to music. She suddenly died of unknown causes at the young age of thirty.
