Henry first married Maytha Myrtle Pyle in East St. Louis, Illinois on June 13, 1917. They had two daughters, Grace and Frona, before Maytha died tragically at age nineteen of encephalitis, called "brain fever". Maytha's body was brought back to Fentress County for burial in the Wolf River Cemetery. On Nov 18, 1923 he married Carlie Elizabeth Dishman, daughter of Archie Dishman and Rebecca (Reno) Dishman. They had Hobert, Roy, Edith and Bernice. Henry and Carlie are buried side by side in the Wolf River Cemetery at Pall Mall in Fentress County, Tennessee.
